I was reading through what has been posted so far and I noticed that a lot of the stories involve a recently deceased relative that owned the storage unit. Other commonalities I saw were mothers "begging" their children to deal with the storage unit. Because we are early in the project this isn't too much of a problem, but as more people write their stories it will be important to ensure that they aren't too many similar circumstances to the point it starts to be unbelievable.

So here is a list of story summaries for reference that I will try to update periodically. To add your story to the list of summaries post the following:

  • Your unit number
  • Your title, if you have one decided
  • Your narrator's relationship with the owner of the unit.
  • If your narrator will be in the presence of the unit owner when opening the unit.
  • If the owner cannot retrieve their possessions for themselves, include why.
  • A link to your WIP
  • Any other information you want to be unique to your story. (This won't guarantee no one will do something similar but it will at least make people aware of it.)

Summary List:

  • Meticulous Machinery
    Narrator: Son of unit owner.
Unit Owner: Father of narrator, deceased. Son receives the contents of the storage unit as inheritance from his dead father.  He finds a very strange device and has to unravel a small mystery.

Unit #98: Ascended Archie
Ned Stevens is a temp hired by Ancestry.com to digitize old files and records for Montana State Hospital. The unit is owned by the hospital. The only contact with them he will have will be when he delivers the files to the hospital after the 14th. The meat of the story will be answering the question, "why did a doctor get committed?*

If anyone could tell me how to format a link so it just says "link" instead of being a mile long, I would greatly appreciate it.  :P

EDIT: This question is resolved, thanks DSBlake.

#11 No title yet. The main character is the niece of the owner. The owner is present when opening the unit but has to go to work shortly after. I would like to write more of the WIP before I post it. (it's only 2 paragraphs so far) (edit: JK here it is: http://toospooky.com/fleming-storage-units-wips/fleming-storage-unit-11-casual-conversations-(wip)/ ) Marge from Marg Madness is the owner of the unit but is letting her sister and the main character, Mary Ann, get first dibs on the unit's things and told them she will get someone else to pick up what they leave behind. She really is going to leave the rest to go to the police auction.

# 52. Title: Rubber Relic. More detailed summary: Darby Pearce is retreiving items owned by his father, who is currently in a hospice dying of liver disease bought on by chronic alcoholism. The items were put into storage by Darby, and consist of the contents of a basement used by his parents as a fetish dungeon up until the accidental death of his mother, who died of anaphylactic shock after developing a sudden-onset latex allergy whilst restrained in the dungeon for several days when his father was suddenly hospitalised. The father kept the room as a shrine for many years until the more dubiously accidental death of another woman he met online, which Darby helped him cover up before placing the entire contents in storage himself.

This was a smart thing to do, thanks for taking the time to go through what's been posted so far. I'm concerned a bit with mine, so I'm gonna see if I can rethink it and change the deceased relative bit.

Unit #88
Deceitful Doppleganger (title is work in progress)
Main character is Kimbre, the cousin of the owner of the unit. It originally belonged to his cousin's parents who have been dead for some time. They decide during Kim's return to Havre that it was time to explore the unit.
Kim will be present for the opening of the unit and besides retrieving some nostalgic items from his childhood, he is mainly there as emotional support for his cousin as well as supplying his truck.
I don't have a WIP as of yet
The story involves the dead uncle being a former artist for a company similar to Wizards of the Coast and having had worked on tabletop games and trading card games aside from being an artist in general.
