The whole don't use X tropes part from the rules is kinda frustrating because i am hella new to this site and have no idea what these disallowed tropes are

Without going back and looking, the main thing they don't want to see is monsters/overt supernatural. I don't really remember the mention of not using tropes, but maybe I'm wrong?

If I recall, the only things that were strictly disallowed were UCA memes and overtly supernatural things.

Just did a quick breakdown of what I have so far, and it looks like I pass the eight page limit just as I get into Act 3. This...might take some doing.

Probably doesn't help that I paced the thing like a goddamned Aubrey Beardsley story. This is why I gave up on the whole flash fiction thing.
Pacing is a helluva drug.

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that. Maybe try just chilling for a couple days and starting fresh? Or, maybe work out some sort of collaboration with #33 if your stories are that similar. Could your respective protagonists meet over a malted milk at Inspector Moo Moo's or something?

It's always hard to move forward when you start to feel like your core concept is derivative, I know. If you started it on your own, though, there must be a way of keeping it your own.

I've been editing my first draft for the last day or so, and I keep coming up over the page limit. I think I might have to start again from a blank slate...paring it down like this kinda kills the flow.

I'm afraid that what I have is closer to a long winded weird-fiction story rather than a punchy horror story. I might post the full draft in the next day or two if I can get it down to eight pages.

Some room please folks? Thank you.

Ahem.

* runs in circles* AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
* Deep Breath *

AHHHHHHHHHHH -Ow , leg cramp, leg cramp! Oh. - AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH * Collapse*

Sorry, just had to get that out of my system one way or another. It would look weird to do that in the middle of a Costco. Thanks.

I'm  on the the self-loathing phase of writing, so hurrah.

Guys, it literally took me two weeks to figure out how the hell to get even 500 words on a page in a configuration I liked. Literally, fifteen pages of notes and adaptions and draft after draft. And now, less than a week later i post my first full length draft and I'm sitting here like "fuck this shit, why did I think I could actually follow a format for once?????"

You got this.
Knowing nothing of what you're working with, I would say just write something that means something to you. It doesn't have to be remarkable...it doesn't even have to be terribly interesting to Real People...it just has to be yours. That's the big issue. Make it yours.

Incidentally, I would be happy to take a look at what you have so far. I'm no real authority, but I would be genuinely happy to see what you're working with, and maybe help tread the waters with you.

Just like Lysdoodle, shoot me what you've got so far in a personal message or something and I'd love to workshop it with you. I'm slowly coming to the realization that I'm more of an editor than I am a writer...which is my own cross to bear...but, seriously, door's open.

you're the best, prepare your inbox. also, just a question....are people not working in the project allowed to comment on our threads? because reading some comments floating around i'm like 99% sure they aren't actually from someone who knows what is going on here

You should totally post it. Other people might have ideas of what can be cut or chopped. Also, remember that if it's dialogue pushing out the length the latest update does imply a bit of leeway with that.

Mistakes have been made, haha.
